covid-19

When lockdown was eased and localised outbreaks matter-of-factly forecast to become our reality instead, I implicitly understood this would continue to disproportionately impact BAME groups having witnessed tragedy within my own community already.  I was compelled to show leadership in the face of confused and conflicting messaging and felt there was an urgent need to communicate a nuanced and clear framework on how to 'stay alert'. I felt this was especially relevant for vulnerable groups hit hardest by COVID-19, as there was little to suggest this disparity would change once lockdown restrictions were lifted.

Spurred into action, I began to write a guide to meaningfully convey the increased risks faced by vulnerable groups alongside offering a framework to mitigate this, sensitive to the way people actually live.  Backed by eight different medical organisations and with forewords from Dr Bob Gill, GP and NHS campaigner and Professor Dame Donna Kinnair, Chief Executive & General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, Lifting Lockdown has become a grassroots movement.
